USO Remembers Our Heroes, April 12, 2002
Retired Col. Edwin Price Ramsey first encountered the USO as a second lieutenant with the fabled 11th Cavalry along the Mexican border in 1941. That was shortly before he was shipped overseas to the Philippines, where he earned the Distinguished Service Cross and lasting fame for leading the last U.S. Army Horse Cavalry charge against the Japanese on Bataan in January of 1942. Ramsey was at the USO's annual black-tie gala at the Pentagon City Ritz Carlton to be recognized for accomplishments, which included organizing guerrilla forces on Luzon after American and Philippine troops surrendered. He talked about the use of cavalry in recent action in Afghanistan and the value of horses in combat.
